In the year 2000, two young russian teenagers named Elena Sergeevna Katina and Yulia Volkova were brought together to form the controversial girlband, t.A.T.u by script writer and director, Ivan Shopolav. At first he tried to work with Yulia on her own, but then decided to take on Lena as well because he wanted something a little unique. She had previously been in a band called "Neposedi" with Yulia and their chemistry had been unique. To make the band mored idolised, Lena had to lose a few pounds and Yulia, (Prounounced Julia), had to cut her hair short and dye it black. t.A.T.u are have been well known for their naughty on-stage antics and shocked the nation when they appeared in their video for "All the things she said" snogging. "People love us or hate us but nobody thinks nothing of us" says quiet, red head Lena. The two teenagers supported Russia at the eurovison song contest 2003 with deep and very imaginative ("Ne'ver ne Bojsia")The history behind the band name t.A.T.u means "This girl loves that girl" because they are not afraid to show off thier lesbian image and most of the songs they have written have been about thier love for one another.
Both Lena and Yulia don't give a fuck about what other people think of them, they will be their selves and there is nothing anyone can do to change that. t.A.T.u have so far made english videos for "Not Gonna Get Us" and "All the things she said" and Russian videos for "30 Minut" and "Prostye Dhizhenia".
The girls carried on singing for the world and wowed everyone with new music but at the beginning of 2004, News broke out. The girls had decided to sack producer, Ivan Shapovolov. "People want to hear the latest music, not read about the latest scandals" quotes gorgeus Yulia Volkova. But there came a problem, Ivan held the rights to the bands name, tATu. So the girls will be changing their name to tEmA in the current future.
